Dr. Shinway founded the Center for Specialized Psychology to meet the unique and individualized needs of women and children exposed to trauma. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of New Jersey, New York, Florida and Vermont. Dr. Shinway also provides clinical supervision to both master and doctoral level students, interns, and psychological residents.
Dr. Shinway specializes in working with women who have been negatively impacted by domestic violence, childhood abuse, and reproductive/female issues. She is an expert in trauma therapy and incorporates various techniques from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Prolonged Exposure, to meet the individualized needs of her patients. Dr. Shinway helps her patients process and heal from adverse life circumstances and gain insight into how past experiences impact current behavioral and emotional functioning. The most common treatment outcome for her patients consists of self-empowerment, strength & stability.
Dr. Shinway attained her M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, where she had the privilege of being trained by experts in the fields of trauma and domestic violence. She also has a background in Forensic Psychology and obtained her B.A. and M.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Shinway is an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University. She currently teaches the Child Maltreatment and Trauma Assessment and Intervention online graduate course, for those students interested in taking on a speciality in the treatment of trauma.
Dr. Shinway is also a contracted evaluator for the NJ Department of Children and Families, Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
