
Dr. Shinway founded the Center for Specialized Psychology to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to the unique experiences of women, children, and families impacted by trauma. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Vermont, and is certified in Perinatal Mental Health. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Shinway provides supervision and mentorship to master’s- and doctoral-level trainees, interns, and psychological residents.
Dr. Shinway specializes in trauma-focused treatment for women navigating the effects of domestic violence, childhood trauma, relationship difficulties, and reproductive or maternal mental health concerns. Her therapeutic approach is integrative and individualized, drawing from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy. She works collaboratively with clients to help them process painful experiences, build insight, strengthen emotional resilience, and create lasting change. Her work emphasizes empowerment, healing, stability, and reclaiming a sense of self.
Dr. Shinway earned both her M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, where she received specialized training in trauma and domestic violence treatment. She also holds both a B.A. and M.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr. Shinway serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University, where she teaches graduate-level coursework in child maltreatment, trauma assessment, and trauma-informed intervention for clinicians pursuing advanced training in trauma treatment.
