Tele-Therapy Services Available to All New and Existing Patients During COVID-19
Dr. Badaan Shinway founded the Center for Specialized Psychology to meet the unique and individualized needs of women and children exposed to trauma. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of New Jersey, New York, Florida and Vermont. Dr. Badaan Shinway specializes in working with women who have been negatively impacted by domestic violence, childhood abuse, and reproductive/female issues. She is an expert in trauma therapy and incorporates various techniques from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Prolonged Exposure, to meet the individualized needs of her patients. Dr. Badaan Shinway helps her patients process and heal from adverse life circumstances and gain insight into how past experiences impact current behavioral and emotional functioning. The most common treatment outcome for her patients consists of self-empowerment, strength & stability.
Dr. Badaan Shinway attained her M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, where she had the privilege of being trained by experts in the fields of trauma and domestic violence. She also has a background in Forensic Psychology and obtained her B.A. and M.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Badaan Shinway is an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University. She currently teaches the Child Maltreatment and Trauma Assessment and Intervention online graduate course, for those students interested in taking on a speciality in the treatment of trauma. Dr. Badaan Shinway is also a contracted evaluator for the NJ Department of Children and Families, Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
Megan Burgoyne is a Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of New Jersey. She obtained her Master's of Arts in Counseling from Kean University with a concentration in School Counseling. She is also a certified Student Assistance Counselor.
Megan specializes in working with adolescents and young adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, developmental disorders, and trauma. She uses a Person Centered Therapy approach with aspects of Mindfulness and CBT to meet the particular needs of her patients. Through her work as an LPC, Megan assists her patients in exploring the influence of current thinking patterns on their emotional and behavioral functioning. Her goal is to facilitate personal growth within her patients, to assist in building self-esteem and improving their overall quality of life.
Irene Hernandez-Kearns is a Bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of New Jersey. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Caldwell University.
Irene provides individual and family therapy in English and Spanish. She treats adolescents and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, mood disorders and general life stressors. Irene has worked with patients at various levels of care, including outpatient, residential and in-home. Her primary treatment approach is CBT, although she incorporates techniques from other treatment modalities based on the specific needs of each unique patient. Irene prioritizes helping patients recognize their utmost treatment goals and assists them in reaching these goals through gaining insight into behavior and acquiring relevant life skills.
Taylor Pini is a Licensed Associate Counselor in the state of New Jersey. She is also a National Certified Counselor. Taylor is currently working towards obtaining her Licensed Professional Counselor credentials, and is under the supervision of an LPC. Taylor completed her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Montclair State University. During her undergraduate training at Muhlenberg College, Taylor also majored in Psychology, with a minor in Public Health.
Taylor provides individual, couples and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults. She has worked with patients at various levels of care, including intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and residential treatment. Taylor specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety, depression, mood disorders and general life stressors. While her primary treatment approach is CBT, she also incorporates techniques from other treatment modalities based on patients' individual needs, interests, and personality. Taylor prioritizes helping patients explore the impact their current thoughts have on their emotions and behaviors. Her goal is to provide patients a safe and supportive environment to share their thoughts, beliefs and attitudes in order to grow and improve their overall quality of life.
Alexandra Knight is a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of New Jersey. She obtained her Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology and Counseling from Saint Elizabeth University. Currently, Alexandra is pursuing her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology, also at Saint Elizabeth University. She has completed all coursework and practicum trainings, and is presently acquiring her doctoral internship hours under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
Alexandra provides individual, couples and family therapy, and has worked with children, adolescents and adults. She has experience treating a variety of mental health issues including substance use, anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disturbances, personality disorders, developmental disabilities, as well as general life stressors and transitions. Alexandra is particularly passionate about prenatal and postpartum mental health and emotional well-being. She primarily works from a psychodynamic framework, and incorporates interventions from numerous approaches, such as CBT and Person-Centered Therapy, to assist her patients in achieving maximum treatment success. Alexandra also provides Play Therapy to children and can perform psychological assessments.
