Cara Capasso-Murray is a Licensed Associate Counselor in the state of New Jersey. She obtained her Masters of Arts in Counseling from Montclair State University, with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Cara is currently pursuing her Licensed Professional Counselor credentials, under the supervision of an LPC.
Cara provides therapy services to adolescents and adults through individual, couples, and family therapy. She specializes in working with individuals who struggle with eating disorders, body-dysmorphia, life transitions, anxiety, depression and trauma. Cara also has experience working with individuals questioning their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or a combination thereof.
Cara takes an optimistic, choice centered approach to empower her clients to live their best life. She uses a combination of theoretical orientations including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices. Cara believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship in helping her clients facilitate change. She aims to help her clients move through emotional discomfort, challenge unhealthy beliefs, and explore who they are.
In addition to her work at the Center for Specialized Psychology, Cara is currently a full time clinician at the Renfrew Center.
